Report: Two NBA Stars Willing To Give Up Young Teammate For Kyrie Irving

The Minnesota Timberwolves have been a big name connected to the Kyrie Irving trade rumors. So far they have yet to reach a deal, and it may be due to their unwillingness to give up one big young star.

Since being traded to the Timberwolves before his rookie season started, Andrew Wiggins has shown flashes of star potential. Averaging 20.4 points, 4.1 rebounds, and 2.1 assists per game for his career, he’s been one of the Wolves’ core young players since day one.

2017 brought about a new era though, with Jimmy Butler and Jeff Teague coming to town. Rather than going through the youth movement, the T-Wolves became a team ready to win now.

So when news came out about Kyrie Irving’s supposed availability, Minnesota was unsurprisingly at the front of the trade rumors. While the T-Wolves are reportedly front runners to land him, they have been reluctant to include Wiggins in any potential trade package, even offering him an extension to stay long term.

According to Amico Hoops, two of Wiggins’ own teammates may be willing to let him go if it means they could play with Kyrie Irving. For Jimmy Butler and Karl Anthony-Towns, playing with Kyrie Irving is not something they want to pass up on.

Obviously, they see more value in him than they do in Wiggins. Even for a younger, unproven guy, that’s gotta hurt.

Nevertheless, nobody, at this point, would be inclined to disagree with them. Right now, Kyrie is clearly the better player. Whether or not the Wolves pull this off, it seems the relationship in that locker room may never be the same.

But the fact that two of Wiggins’ best teammates willing to part ways with him for Kyrie, says a lot about the point guards value for other NBA stars. The only question now is how valuable he is to NBA GMs.
