Shaq Savages Recently-Retired NBA Referee on Twitter

Former Lakers and Heat center Shaquille O’Neal might not be playing anymore, but he still seems relieved to see one of the NBA’s longest-serving officials leave.

On Wednesday, the National Basketball Referees Association (NBRA) announced that referee Danny Crawford had retired.

The 63-year-old decided to call it quits after officiating over 2,300 NBA games, over 300 playoff games and at least one NBA final game for 23 straight years. In all, Crawford spent 31 years as an NBA ref.

Shaq, though, looks to be glad that Crawford’s time in the league is over. His one-worded reaction on Twitter says it all.

Of course it’s probably just a joke, but Crawford recently described ‘The Diesel’ as the most difficult player he’s ever had to supervise.

“We were always two years behind catching up with all the stuff Shaq would do on the court,” he said. “Shaq was the most difficult big man to referee in the history of the game. He was so massive, so physical, so dominant.

“Players would just flop because they didn’t know any other way to guard the guy. We had to concern ourselves with whether they’re flopping or if Shaq was just knocking the hell out of the guy.”

Thankfully, they were eventually able to find a middle ground. But don’t tell Shaq that.
